You bought a coffee. The screen swiveled around. Three buttons: 18%, 20%, 25%, and a barista watching you pick. You just wanted a coffee. Somewhere along the way, paying for lunch turned into a math quiz with an audience. Tip Free is a map of the places that skipped that part.
Tip Free is a community map of spots that let you pay the price on the tag and walk out. Green for no prompt, yellow for a prompt, red for a mandatory charge. It is crowdsourced, every entry is reviewed before it goes live, and anyone can add a place they have actually been to. Here is how it works.
Everywhere else, this is just called having a job Your boss hires you, your boss pays you, and the customer pays the price on the tag. Nobody hands the pharmacist a dollar for being pleasant. Food service is the one industry that carved the worker's wage out of the price and handed it to strangers at the till as a decision you make in public, fast, while someone waits. We think that is backwards. If the burger costs $10 and the service costs $2, charge $12 for the burger. The customer isn't ambushed at checkout, and the worker's rent doesn't ride on a stranger's mood.
This is not anti-server. It is the opposite. Respect for hard work means putting it on the payroll, not on the customer's conscience. The places on this map pay their people properly and skip the guilt screen. They chose the harder way to run a business, and until now they were invisible, quietly doing the right thing while the tip-prompt crowd got all the foot traffic. This map points at them.

We note the percentage where we can.
Anyone can add a place The map is only as good as the people who fill it in. Been somewhere that let you pay and go without the dance? Add it. You search for the place, pick the flag, tell us roughly when you were there, and leave a Reddit handle or email so we can follow up if we need to. It takes about two minutes. We review every single submission before it goes live, so it stays a real map and not a map of everyone's cousin's restaurant.
